Mary McLorn Valle

Flourish

May 24 - June 21, 2019
Reception: Sunday, May 26, 12:30 - 2:00pm

To flourish is to demonstrate thriving positive energy, it is a bold or extravagant gesture made to catch the attention of others. The Latin root word florere means to blossom and flos translates to flower.

Mary McLorn Valle's oil paintings of flowers are not soft or sweet. Valle's work is graphic and bold; it exudes joyful energy and explores themes of renewal and contained energy that is unfolding. Valle is inspired to catch nature as it bends, explodes, shines and fades. Her dynamic use of colour and perspective demonstrate a modern take on this usually traditional subject. Valle further explores colour in systematic ways in her "This Times That" grids and playful brushstroke studies.

Valle grew up in rural Ontario with parents who were visual artists. She resides in Toronto, and has work in many private and corporate collections. Valle received undergraduate degrees from Western and Queen's and holds an MFA from the University of Regina.
