Letters to a Friend

You come to me in words. I am stripped, flayed, gutted. I have no skin and the world rushes into me.

I wander the winter afternoons, gobsmacked by the light. The earth burns with cold fire. I am consumed. I weep and sing and weep again.

Darkness ascends from the earth, leaks into the sky. I write letters and listen for your voice. I speak to you with paint, with gesture, with small repeated marks. I think that you can hear me.
