A Thanksgiving Message from Peter Holmes
This coming Monday is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Of course, we don't limit gratitude to one day. Studies show that if we make time each day to be thankful, we will be much happier. And yet sometimes there seems to be little for which to be thankful.
I was with a friend recently who has been through an awful ordeal of late and while I was half expecting to find him angry and depressed, I heard only gratitude. As I prayed with him, he lent his voice to the prayer counting his blessings one by one. I went away so inspired and thankful.
Let us pray for our neighbours to the south in distress from the hurricanes, for peace on earth, and for those in our own community facing hardships. But let us also pause each day to reflect on God's faithfulness, as morning by morning new mercies we see.
While I am writing to invite you to view the video above, I also invite you to join us in-person or online for our beautiful Thanksgiving worship service on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Sunday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m., join William Maddox, Sharon Beckstead, and the Yorkminster Park and Metropolitan United church choirs in singing a selection of beloved and familiar autumn themed hymns at our Home, Harvest and Healing Autumn Hymn Festival.
Your gifts to God and the church are changing lives. If you are with us I invite you to bring your gift on Sunday, but if not, you can offer your Thanksgiving gift online.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Peter Holmes
