Minister Emeritus – Pastoral Care
Rev. John Torrance
The Rev. John R. Torrance was raised on a dairy farm at Claremont, Ontario, attended McMaster University (B.A.) and Divinity College (M.Div.), and served Baptist congregations in Wiarton, Stratford, Ottawa, and Sarnia before joining the staff of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church as Associate Minister, Pastoral Care, in 2002. He served on several Canadian Baptist of Ontario & Quebec committees, culminating with a year as President in 2004-05.
Upon his retirement in 2019, some members of the congregation published a collection of his pastoral prayers in the book A Year in Prayer. In 2015, he and his late wife Margaret returned to Yorkminster Park, where he continues to serve as Minister Emeritus, Pastoral Care. He has three sons and two beautiful granddaughters and enjoys gardening in the summer and the sport of curling in the winter.
